Business cards, sanders and console TVs

My business cards came in on Friday. It’s kind of ridiculous how official they make me feel. I spent my Labor Day weekend chatting up family and friends and giving them my business card, hoping that they’ll pass the store along to some potential costumers. Hopefully I get some sales.

I am secretly terrified that my first few sales were a fluke and I’m never going to sell anything again.

But I feel pretty awesome carrying them around.

My father-in-law is a generally amazing guy, and when I traveled backed to Pa. this weekend he gave me a hand sander to take back to Maryland. He just happened to have one lying around in his “building”, as he has about two of everything in there, and gave me a brand new in the box Dewalt hand sander. It even has a little vacuum and bag on it to pick up the dust. He, of course, requested it back if I ever quit this little venture.

To anyone who is thinking of upcycling their own furniture, I stress to you, GET A HAND SANDER. It’s unbelievable how much easier the process was. I can only imagine how long it would have taken me to smooth out the very dog-eaten legs on my beautiful French provincial dresser or the nicked to hell and back curved base, but I got it done in about 10 minutes with the sander.

And finally, I will leave you with a little hint of a long, on-going project that I stumbled upon on my way in a two hour car ride to meet the in-laws camping in the middle of nowhere. It’s a huge console TV, and it’s going to be converted into something to be used during my favorite past time (no, not upcycling)… Entertaining with booze!

Step by step pictures and details of this months long process to accompany I promise. I’ve got big ideas for this project, and I want you all to go through the trials and errors with me!
